JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Home players took over the South African Open Championship in the third round Saturday as Jayden Schaper and Ryan van Velzen claimed a share of the lead and Dean Burmester moved into contention to win on back-to-back weeks on the European tour.Schaper shot 5-under 67 and Van Velzen had a 70 to finish a stroke clear of compatriot Louis De Jager (70) on a stifling day in Johannesburg.Burmester, who won the Joburg Open last week, shot 65 — the low round of the day by two strokes — and was in a six-way tie for fourth place that included overnight leader Jesper Svensson (74).Neither the No. 445-ranked Schaper, No. 644 Van Velzen nor No. 256 De Jager have a European tour title to their name.At No. 85, Thriston Lawrence of South Africa is the only player in the top 100 of the rankings and he was tied for 41st — eight shots back — after a 74.The tournament is the second of three straight events in South Africa to open the 2024 season on the European tour.___AP golf: http...House party in Aurora ends with multiple people shot

(CNN) — House Speaker Mike Johnson said Saturdayhe believes Republicans have the votes to launch a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.“I believe we will,” Johnson told Fox News of a GOP-led impeachment inquiry. “I suspect no Democrats will assist in this effort, but they should.”Johnson added Republicans “have a duty to do this” and “we cannot stop the process.”Republican leadership and key GOP committee chairs on Friday made the case for why they believe an inquiry vote is necessary, arguing it would strengthen their legal standing in court and accusing the White House of “stonewalling” their probe into the president and his son’s foreign business dealings – a claim the White House has forcefully rebutted.Johnson, appearing alongside House GOP conference chair Elise Stefanik, claimed the inquiry wouldn’t be used as a partisan political tool.“Elise and I both served on the impeachment defense team of Donald Trump twice, when the Democrats used it for braze...Inaugural Miami Beach Holiday Festival of Lights promises to light up the season

The serial position effect is a psychological phenomenon that explains how human memory is impacted by the order of information. It states we tend to remember the first and last parts of a sequence better than those in the middle; like items on a grocery list, digits in a phone number or scenes in a movie or TV show.Or, say, the seasons of a quarterback’s career. After Bailey Zappe assumed starting reps in practice this week, it appears the Mac Jones era has reached its end in New England. The final image of Jones playing quarterback shows him lying on the turf at MetLife Stadium, having wilted yet again under pressure on a strip sack moments before halftime in a loss to the Giants. That sack followed two earlier interceptions that could only be explained by mind-boggling mental lapses.“In both of those situations,” offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien said this week, “(Jones) would probably be the first to tell you that he has to make a better decision.”This is ...Latest news
