Oakland mayor 'frustrated' over efforts to find new police chief

(KRON) -- Five months after former Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong was fired, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao said she's become frustrated with the process of trying to replace him. Armstrong was fired earlier this year after being placed on administrative leave.According to a city charter, the Oakland Police Commission needs to make its recommendations before the mayor can hire a new police chief. On Thursday, Mayor Thao called out the commission for drawing out the process of identifying candidates to replace Armstrong. (KRON) -- Two suspects were arrested Thursday in connection to a retail theft, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.Around 5 p.m., two suspects stole a cart of items from a local business in the 3500 block of Homestead Road, police said. The thieves attempted to steal an employee's phone after they were confronted by that store employee. San Jose women charged after infested langsat fruit seized The suspects fled the store and the employee began taking pictures of the suspects' car. The thieves then attempted to run over the employee that was continuing to take pictures, SCPD said. The employee called 911 and provided a description of the suspect vehicle.Officers located the suspects at El Camino Real and Los Padres Boulevard and were both positively identified by the employee. The Broward Sheriff’s Office on Thursday arrested a deputy accused of committing fraud.Deputy Fredtajah Pinkney, 24, is facing two counts of uttering a forged instrument that she attempted to use to secure a residential lease on an apartment. According to BSO, an investigation took place in July when detectives received a tip regarding Pinkney’s activities. During the course of their investigation, detectives found that in July of 2021, Pinkney claimed that she worked at a Broward County school and created forged pay stubs from the school in order to fill out the lease application.An official with the school told detectives that Pinkney was never an employee. It was also revealed during the investigation, that in August of this year, Pinkney once again used the forged pay stubs from the school when she applied for a lease at a Coral Springs apartment community in May 2022. A teenager is facing charges after an overnight stabbing in Manchester left an 18-year-old victim in serious condition, according to officials.The Manchester Police Department said a 16-year-old male was charged after officers were first called to the area of 300 Elm Street Thursday night for a report of a person stabbed.Responding around 9:20 p.m., arriving officers found an 18-year-old male suffering from life-threatening injuries in an adjacent parking lot.Authorities learned the stabbing happened after the occupants of two vehicles got into an argument on I-293 North and later exited the highway before arriving at the lot.
