JENNINGS, Mo. – The Jennings City Council recently passed a measure giving raises to council members and the mayor.The city is facing the possibility of a Missouri state auditor over spending. Jennings residents, aided by allies on the city council, succeeded in gathering 800 signatures to bring in the state auditor.The names will be verified by elections officials to ensure they have enough. But in the meantime, council members will now be paid $9,600 per year, while the mayor receives a 20% raise, going from $25,000 to $30,000.The raises will take effect in their next terms. A Long Beach family will receive a record $13 million settlement after a teenager was fatally shot by a school officer in 2021.The family of Manuela Mona Rodriguez, an 18-year-old mother, was shot and killed by a Long Beach School District safety officer during a fight with another girl.The victim’s family announced the settlement with the Long Beach Unified School District during a press conference on Tuesday.“It’s been the most difficult thing I’ve had to do in my life,” said Oscar Rodriguez, Mona’s brother. “I miss my sister. Authorities believe a serial arsonist is on the loose in the Mt. Washington and Silver Lake communities, and while the damage so far has been limited to dumpster fires and Cypress trees, residents in the area are concerned things could escalate. A cracking window is what alerted Walter Moguel to the fire right outside his home. The Mt. Washington resident told KTLA that he believes the fire was intentionally set. “It was only later when I was being interrogated by the police and firemen and I said, ‘Well, how do you guys think it started, somebody came by with a cigarette or something?’ He says, ‘No. It looks like you have an arsonist in the neighborhood,'" Moguel explained. Police in San Bernardino County have made an arrest in connection with a shooting death of a 51-year-old man over the weekend in Chino.The deadly shooting is believed to have taken place Sunday morning in a parking lot on the 5400 block of Philadelphia Avenue. Chino police officers responded to the scene and found the body of 51-year-old Philip Hernandez dead from gunshot wounds. His death was immediately determined to be a homicide and a murder investigation was launched.The following day, police located and arrested a 21-year-old man on the 13300 block of Central Avenue for his alleged role in the shooting. The suspect has been identified as Taylor Sanchez.Sanchez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga where he awaits charges for murder and conspiracy to commit murder. KM Cash for Gold's owner says it has been broken into four times in January and February, including twice on Feb. 22.Video from Feb. 22, which you can watch at the top of the story, shows as many as 11 people enter the store after one suspect uses a crowbar to pry the door open. Once inside, the suspects are seen browsing through the store, looking at several items, and leaving after a short time. OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- Two people are now in custody after police found weapons and suspected drugs in a search on Monday, according to the Oakland Police Department. One of the suspects is believed to have been involved in a February shooting, police say. 4.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Northern California Working officers served search warrants at two separate locations, and found nine firearms including semi-automatic guns, assault rifles and multiple high-capacity ammunition magazines, police said.
