Since the 1980s, the University of Colorado Boulder has carved an image of Ralphie on every instrument that’s gone to space on more than a dozen missions. It’s become a CU Boulder tradition for Ralphie and the school logo to be engraved into aluminum exteriors and even sewn into a thermal blanket on every instrument that goes to space.“I think it’s great,” Frank Eparvier, associate director for science at CU Boulder’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, said. “I think it shows our school pride and pride of wanting to send our mark out into space, and a lot of these probes will be out there forever.”Ralphie on the Interstellar Dust Experiment instrument, which is scheduled to launch on NASA’s Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe in 2025. In the past two weeks, Colorado State kicker Jordan Noyes has proven he can kick under pressure, and he can kick for distance. Those two qualities not only make head coach Jay Norvell’s job easier when the situation calls for three points, but also prove Noyes is everything the Rams could have asked or hoped for when they signed the 31-year-old transfer from Utah.So far this season, Noyes is a perfect 21-for-21 on PATs and 7-of-9 on field goals, including six of his last seven. He had a season-high three against UNLV on Saturday, including his season-long of 55 yards. But before the Rams traveled to Las Vegas last weekend, Noyes provided one of the most exciting moments of the season when his penalty-lengthened extra point gave CSU its first-ever win over Boise State on Oct. 14.It came after Dallin Holker’s improbable Hail Mary catch in the end zone as time expired that tied the game against the Broncos.“That was something we work on every week in practice,” No...49ers Studs and Duds: Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks embarrassed in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS — A second straight road game had the favored 49ers desperately in need of a fourth-quarter comeback. This one failed, too.The 49ers’ defense was in retreat throughout Monday night’s 22-17 loss to the Vikings, but it wasn’t until Brock Purdy had two passes intercepted in the final 5 1/2 minutes to seal a second straight defeat. It was Purdy’s first career game with two interceptions, and they came on targets to Jauan Jennings and Ray-Ray McCloud, the receivers summoned to help fill in for Deebo Samuel, who is out with a shoulder he fractured in the previous week’s loss at Cleveland. The 49ers (5-2) saw their defense repeatedly blow assignments and allowed 378 passing yards to Kirk Cousins, who did not get sacked and did not even have the services of star receiver Justin Jefferson (injured reserve). The Vikings (3-4) have won seven straight home games against the 49ers dating back to 1994.Purdy and the 49ers offense had chances to rectify ...Modesto City Schools becomes one of first districts to have half-electric bus fleet
